What Happened at Work?

Choose the option below that best reflects your situation. Not sure? There is an option for that too.

I Was Fired or Laid Off

At will employment has limits. Firings that break public policy or target who you are can be illegal.

Handed a severance agreement? Do not sign before a free severance review.

I Am Owed Pay, Overtime, or Breaks

Unpaid overtime, skipped meal breaks, late final paychecks. We can help ensure you get what you are owed.

I Am Treated Worse Because of Who I Am

Race, age, disability, pregnancy, sex, religion. FEHA protects you.

I Am Being Harassed at Work

Sexual harassment or a hostile workplace. One incident can be enough for a harassment claim.

I Spoke up and Got Punished

Complained, reported, or refused to do something illegal, then got demoted or fired. That is retaliation.

I Was Denied Leave or Pushed Out for Taking It

CFRA, FMLA, and pregnancy disability leave violations.

Not Sure What Happened to You Is Illegal?

Most people are not. Answer a few plain questions and we will tell you.

Why Employees Pick RMD Law

Some firms fight for employees on Monday and defend companies on Tuesday. We do not. We only represent employees. That is not a slogan, it is a structure.

A firm that also bills employers has to keep those clients comfortable. It cannot warn you about the exact tactics its other clients pay it to use. We have no such conflict. When we tell you what your employer is likely to do next, it is because we have watched companies do it, not because we have helped them do it.

It also changes the math at the table. Someone usually walks in with the one employment case of their life. The employer has defense counsel on retainer and a playbook. Representing employees exclusively is how we close that gap.

No consultation fee. No hourly bills. No fees whatsoever unless the case wins. See exactly how that works on our contingency fees page.

How Does a Free Case Review Work?

Answer a Few Short Questions

Plain language, about two minutes, on your phone.

Upload Anything You Have

A termination letter, pay stubs, texts, a severance offer, or nothing at all.

An Attorney Reviews It and Responds ASAP

A real review of your situation by an attorney, typically within one business day.

100% confidential. We never contact your employer or anyone else about your case without your permission.

Handed a Severance Agreement?

Do not sign on the deadline they gave you. If you are 40 or older, federal law under the ADEA usually gives you 21 days to consider a severance offer, 45 days if it is part of a group layoff, plus 7 days to revoke after signing.

We review severance agreements free of charge, fast.

Your Claim Has a Deadline

Waiting can cost you the case. Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act generally must be filed with the Civil Rights Department, the state agency that handles discrimination complaints, within three years. Most wage claims run three years. Some claims run as little as one year.

Important Things to Know

How Much Does an Employment Lawyer Cost in California?

For most cases, nothing up front and nothing unless we win. We work on contingency, so our fee is a percentage of what we recover, spelled out in writing before you owe a cent. The consultation is free. See how our fees work.

Can I Be Fired for No Reason in California?

Usually yes. California is an at-will state, so an employer can fire you for a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason. What it cannot do is fire you for an illegal reason: your race, age, disability, or pregnancy; because you complained about harassment; or because you reported something unlawful. See can I be fired for no reason.

How Long Do I Have to File?

It depends on the claim. FEHA discrimination and harassment claims generally allow three years to file with the Civil Rights Department, many wage claims run three years, and a few run one year. The safest move is to have a lawyer check your dates now. See the deadline table.

Will My Employer Find Out I Talked to a Lawyer?

Not from us. Your review is confidential, and we never contact your employer without your permission. California law also makes it illegal to retaliate against you for asserting your rights under Labor Code section 98.6.

What Is My Case Worth?

It depends on your lost pay, the strength of the evidence, the employer’s conduct and size, and whether a fee-shifting statute applies. No honest lawyer will give you a number before reviewing the facts.

Not sure how this applies to your situation? Talk it through with an employment lawyer. The call is free and confidential.
