What Is the Minimum Wage in Los Angeles Right Now?

City of Los Angeles: $18.42 per hour from July 1, 2026.

Unincorporated LA County: $18.47 per hour from July 1, 2026.

Hotel workers at LA hotels with 60 or more rooms: $25.00 per hour from July 2026, plus a $4.25 per hour health benefit payment, paid in cash if benefits are not provided. The Olympic wage schedule toward $30 per hour was slowed by the City Council May 2026 amendment, now reaching $30 by 2030 rather than 2028. LAX airport workers are covered by a companion schedule.

Fast food at large chains: $20.00 per hour statewide under AB 1228, flat for 2026.

Healthcare workers: roughly $19.28 to $25.00 by facility tier under SB 525.

Which one applies to you depends on where you physically work. The City of LA rate covers work inside city limits, the County rate covers unincorporated areas, and a quick address lookup settles it.

The Three Economies That Generate LA Employment Cases

Entertainment. Studios, streamers, production companies, and post houses. Contraction layoffs, misclassified crew and assistants, unpaid overtime on set, and age bias in writers rooms.

Healthcare. The large regional systems. Missed breaks, SB 525 wage tiers, Health and Safety Code 1278.5 whistleblowers, and the AB 692 ban on training repayment demands.

Logistics and last mile. Warehouses and delivery networks, with AB 701 quota disclosure rights and misclassified drivers under the ABC test.

Two more worth naming: downtown garment sector wage theft, where SB 62 requires hourly pay and bans piece rate, and hospitality under the Hotel Worker Protection Ordinance workload limits, with double pay for overages.

Where Do Los Angeles Employment Cases Get Filed?

Most go to the LA Superior Court, Stanley Mosk Courthouse at 111 North Hill Street, with complex and class cases at the Spring Street Courthouse. Federal claims go to the U.S. District Court, Central District, First Street Courthouse.

For FEHA claims we generally prefer state court and its broader damages.

Government Offices for LA Employees, One Building Downtown

Conveniently, the Labor Commissioner LA office and the Los Angeles office of the California Civil Rights Department (CRD), the state agency that handles discrimination complaints, sit in the same downtown building at 320 West 4th Street, the Labor Commissioner in Suite 450 and the CRD in Suite 1000, with a Van Nuys DLSE office at 6150 Van Nuys Boulevard, Room 206, for the Valley.

Wage claims go to the DLSE. Complaints under California’s Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), the state’s main workplace discrimination law, go to the CRD online, with the right to sue step. The EEOC, the federal agency that handles job discrimination complaints, is the other route, but FEHA is broader. See the deadline table.
